Thingthoria

Thingthoria is a fantasy novel written by Zeren Zarviiolar and published by RenRen co., Ltd., of Bangkok, Thailand. Thingtoria is a story is about dragons, knights and adventure. This project started in 2012 and the illustrations were required to be oil paintings. Thingathoria is the biggest project I’ve worked on to date. The illustrations will be used as book covers, editorial illustrations and other products.

The process (as seen on page 22) of creating Thingthoria was very neat. After the sketches were complete, I did the color studies in Photoshop and then painted each drawing so it looked finished enough to use as a reference. The color studies were prototypes to look at while I painted. The sizes for each painting is different but not smaller than 12 x 15 inches. The materials are also different based on the feelings and ideas I wanted to convey in each piece. Some of the drawings, such as “The Empress” were painted on boards to have a smooth surface and some of the drawings were painted on canvases to have more texture.
